A warm welcome was extended to Chinese President Xi Jinping by U.S. officials at the airport when he arrived in San Francisco for a summit with U.S. President Joe Biden, and the 30th APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting on Tuesday.
Several top U.S. officials, including California Governor Gavin Newsom and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, were present at the airport to greet President Xi as he arrived.

On their way from the airport to the hotel, a large number of overseas Chinese people were spotted waving the national flags of China and the United States in greeting to President Xi Jinping.
Robert Weisenmiller, the former chair of the California Energy Commission, has said, "We are very welcoming to him. I think it's very important to know that APEC is a good opportunity for him and Biden to reset their relationship and continue to grow their relationship," said Weisenmiller.
During the meeting, the two presidents will have in-depth discussions about issues of strategic, overarching, and fundamental importance to the development of China-U.S. relations, as well as world peace and development issues, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning, on Monday.
In upcoming talks between Xi and Biden, the two presidents will meet for the first time in person since their initial meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit last year in Bali, Indonesia. The relationship between the two nations did, however, deteriorate in 2022, when the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, visited China's Taiwan region, which badly strained the two nations' ties.
In the last few months, optimism has slowly crept up and Beijing and Washington have reestablished communication and maintained frequent interactions across a broad range of sectors, creating a new environment for upcoming talks between the two leaders.
In San Francisco, the world will be watching to see whether the two heads of state will be able to improve on the outcomes from Bali and make new developments in bilateral ties.
"I was quite excited when I saw the leaders of China and the United States put aside all of their differences and sit down together at APEC to discuss the geopolitical challenges that their teams are discussing on a daily basis. They recognize how important it is to engage in this type of engagement," said Ertharin Cousin, former director of the United Nations World Food Programme.
It is expected that Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend a number of events during his stay during which he will attempt to find common ground with leaders of Asia-Pacific economies. From November 11 to 17, 2023, San Francisco will host the APEC Leaders' Week in 2023 with the theme "Creating a Resilient and Sustainable Future for All.".
