Germany Becomes More Friendly to International Skilled Labor

The country with the largest economy in Europe has eased the requirements for non-EU nationals to obtain work permits, especially those with the required skills.
The German government has rewritten its legislation to make it easier for people from outside the EU who wish to live and work in Germany as of November 18.
For people with a university degree and a job offer, under the new Skilled Immigration Act and EU Blue Card, the minimum income for a residence permit for employment is only EUR 43,800 a year if they have a university degree and a job offer. The minimum earnings for those in certain professions where the demand for skilled labor is the greatest (for instance, STEM disciplines) must only be around EUR 39,683.
In the case of IT specialists, if they are able to demonstrate three years of professional experience, they do not have to possess a university degree.
When candidates learn German within 21 months of their application, they may be granted a permanent residence permit.
"These legislative changes are expected to make it easier for international companies operating in Germany to hire the top-quality employees they need," says Robert Hermann, CEO of the German government's international business promotion agency, Germany Trade and Invest. Despite the global shortage of skilled labor in key sectors, the government is doing its part to ensure German competitiveness.
According to a recent study, the overwhelming majority of EU Blue Card holders in Germany tend to stay in the country long-term: http://www.gtai.de/en/invest/eu-blue-card-holders-tend-to-stay-in-germany-1022044

The German ministry of trade and investment (GTAI) is the government agency responsible for international business promotion. GTAI helps international companies set up shop in Germany as well as German companies do business abroad. The ministry also promotes Germany as a business location in general.
