MAP IT@Montco's IT Generalist Apprenticeship Program received expedited approval at the November 2023 meeting of the Pennsylvania Apprenticeship and Training Council, which is a significant accomplishment.. "The council praised the MCCC application as a model structure for IT-registered apprenticeship programs throughout Pennsylvania," said Larry Byron, Director of Workforce Development for IT at MCCC.. The success of the program can be attributed to the College's longstanding commitment to IT education as well as the meticulous design of the curriculum

With the help of Safal Partners, we were able to expedite the approval of an innovative IT Generalist Registered Apprenticeship Program in PA.
Over the past two decades, MCCC has been a Cisco Networking Academy Support Center and an Instructor Training Center. A new contract has been signed by Laura Quintana, Vice President of Corporate Affairs and General Manager of Cisco Networking Academy, with Cisco Systems Inc..As part of the 2022 White House National Apprenticeship Week Cybersecurity Sprint event, the Institute of Apprenticeship's Registered Apprenticeship National Guideline Standards (NGS) will be presented. With the aid of Cisco, Safal Partners developed the DOL-approved NGS to provide Academies such as MCCC with the ability to streamline the development of new or expanded Registered Apprenticeship programs in a short amount of time. Through the Cisco Networking Academy, partners are able to tap into the NGS talent pipeline for three critical occupations: IT Generalists (IT Help Desk Support Specialists), Network Technicians, and Cybersecurity Technicians.

It has been shown that Registered Apprenticeship is a viable method of recruiting, training, and retaining a diverse and stronger workforce. 97 percent of companies with programs recommend them as a talent solution, and they report a $1.44 return on investment for every $1 invested in the program, according to the Department of Labor. As well as earning a nationally recognized portable credential during their careers, Registered Apprenticeship program graduates earn an average of $300,000 more than their non-apprentice peers.
The MCCC Dean of Workforce and Economic Development, Kyle Longacre, said, "We are looking at this as a win-win situation in that it will help to meet the high-tech labor needs of our businesses while at the same time guiding our apprentices to good, family-sustaining wage jobs," he said.
It is planned for MCCC to launch its first cohort of students in spring 2024 in collaboration with local business partners, including Montgomery County Intermediate Unit's Office of Technology Services, as well as Open Tier Systems, a managed service provider based in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. It is also being worked on by MCCC to sign new company partnerships in order to prime the pipeline of available workers for this valuable position.
As the Chief Delivery Officer at Safal Partners, Katie Adams says, "We are immensely proud of our work with Cisco to help Academies like MCCC make even greater contributions to their communities through Registered Apprenticeship.". As a result of programs such as MCCC, public and private employers across all sectors are gaining access to a much more qualified, diverse, and work-ready pool of workers to fill critical tech positions.
The comprehensive curriculum at Montgomery County Community College consists of more than 100 associate degree and certificate programs, as well as customized training and certification programs for the workforce. With the designation of Achieving the Dream Leader College of Distinction, the institution is positioned at the vanguard of national efforts designed to remove barriers to access, improve learning outcomes, and increase completion for all students across the country.
