There was recently an internship workshop organized by Canon Middle East and Canon Central and North Africa. The workshop provided an opportunity for students and fresh graduates in the UAE HQ to share their perspectives on youth skilling and organizational development with others.
There was a desire to strengthen the connections within Canon's internship community and enhance the overall experience interns receive at the company.
Canon provided students with the opportunity to become a leader for a day in an exercise called 'MD for a Day' as part of the workshop. In this activity, interns took on the role of leaders and offered advice to help enhance their internship experience. As part of these recommendations, it is recommended that open communication be nurtured, work-life balance be fostered, role modeling be encouraged, as well as lunch breaks be filled with enjoyable activities.
Managing Director of Canon Middle East & Turkey Venkatasubramanian (Subbu) Hariharan commented on the workshop's outcomes: "It is our hope that the insights and recommendations that interns shared during their internship will contribute to creating an environment that is more inclusive and empowering.". There was an emphasis on the importance of mental health and a proper work-life balance among interns. It is suggested that designated breaks be instituted and that individuals be encouraged to completely detach themselves from their work during those times. As a result of maintaining a balance between their professional and personal lives, the young talents recognized that it was a catalyst for enhanced well-being and productivity, which was considered a transformative impact on their lives.
As a result, interns suggested the establishment of a physical library as a means of encouraging a healthy detachment from social media and the internet. This initiative would provide a diverse range of learning options, tailored for each intern in accordance with their own preferences.
Also, collaboration was a central theme in the interns' recommendations. Interns wanted an environment in which they could take a more proactive stance and take advantage of leadership opportunities. As a result of this approach, interns are able to boost teamwork, ignite creativity, and inspire one another to support one another, creating a dynamic and cooperative work environment among interns.
