The global leading manufacturer of consumer durables and electronics, Arçelik (ARCLK: IST, "Arçelik"), has achieved 86/100 (Score date: 22/09/23) on the 2023 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). This assessment evaluates the world's largest companies and analyzes their sustainability performance and their commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG).
As part of the DHP Household Durables Industry assessment, the company achieved the highest score of 46 companies. As a result of this announcement, Arçelik once again establishes itself as the benchmark brand in the manufacturing sector and demonstrates its commitment to a sustainable future.
This announcement highlights Arçelik's continuous commitment to a sustainable future, and places the company once again as the benchmark brand in the manufacturing industry, outscoring 46 other companies assessed in the DHP Household Durables Industry. This is a concrete confirmation of the company's commitment to a sustainable future.
As a result of the United Nations Global Assembly Conference in 2023 (UNGA), the company has been recognized as a leader in accelerating 2030 goals by joining the Forward Faster initiative and making significant commitments to three key areas: climate action, water action, and sustainability finance.
The company also pledged its commitment to the Science Based Targets Initiative, aiming to become a net zero company by 2050 in accordance with the SBTi's Corporate Net Zero Standard. As a result, Arçelik will take a more ambitious step and update its approved science-based targets and set a long-term target that is based on the 1.5-degree scenario and will update its near-term science-based targets.
The net-zero targets will lead Arçelik to achieving a 90% reduction in its global emissions for Scope 1- 2 and Scope 3 by the year 2050, based on the base year of 2022. In order to achieve these targets, Arçelik will take innovative actions across the entire value chain to realise them. In line with the SBTi Corporate Net Zero Standard, the 10% residual emissions will be addressed by investing in qualified nature-based and/or technology-based carbon removal projects.
