NR devices, as well as enterprise and industrial devices, can benefit from the benefits of 5G using RedCap, which stands for "reduced capability." In addition to taking full advantage of the evolution of 5G networks into the Standalone (SA) network architecture, RedCap promises to provide reliability to devices with low bandwidth requirements, offering many of the benefits of 5G without the cost and complexity associated with typical 5G technologies.
With RedCap, which stands for "reduced capability," 5G capabilities can be brought to consumer, enterprise, and industrial devices that are in need of lower bandwidth. Due to the evolution of 5G networks to the Standalone (SA) network architecture, RedCap promises to deliver high levels of reliability for devices with low bandwidth requirements, as well as offering many of the benefits of 5G without the expense and complexity of typical 5G solutions.
A significant part of MediaTek's mission to democratize 5G is its RedCap solutions, which provide our customers with the ability to optimize their components and deliver devices with 5G capabilities that can be tailored to meet the needs of various applications and at a wide range of price points, according to JC Hsu, Corporate Senior Vice President at MediaTek.. In comparison to the leading edge 5G eMMB modem solutions and legacy 4G LTE Cat 4 and Cat 6 devices, migration to 5G RedCap will replace legacy 4G/LTE solutions, offering significantly better power efficiency and more reliable user experiences compared to legacy 4G LTE Cat 4 and Cat 6 devices and leading edge 5G eMMB modem solutions"

The MediaTek T300 series is the world's first 6nm Radio Frequency System-On-Chip (RFSOC) single die solution for RedCap, breaking new ground in the RedCap space as the world's first 6nm radio frequency single die solution for RedCap.. As a result of this RFSOC, brands will be able to take advantage of the emerging RedCap market and design innovative applications for enterprise, industrial, consumer, augmented reality, and data cards. The MediaTek T300 series is based on the highly efficient TSMC 6nm process, and it combines a single-core Arm Cortex-A35 processor in a significantly smaller PCB area than its predecessors. The MediaTek T300 series supports up to 227 Mbps downlink data rates and 122 Mbps uplink data rates

A number of MediaTek's 5G modem IPs, including the T300 series and the M60 5G modem IP, support the 3GPP R17 standard and feature industry-leading power efficiency, coverage enhancements, and extremely low latency. The M60 provides up to a 70% reduction in power consumption compared to similar 5G eMBB solutions using MediaTek's UltraSave 4.0 technology, and up to a 75% reduction in power consumption compared to 4G LTE solutions utilizing MediaTek's UltraSave 4.0 technology.
The RedCap solution from MediaTek is making it easier for 5G-enabled devices across the consumer, enterprise, and industrial sectors to meet ever-evolving connectivity demands and expectations with efficiency, reliability, and cost-savings that are enhancing efficiency, reliability, and cost-savings. In the first half of 2024, MediaTek's T300 series devices will be sampled, followed by commercial samples in the second half.
