It is with great pleasure that LanguageCert, the global awarding organization for languages, announces that its LanguageCert Academic and General tests have been approved as Secure English Language Tests (SELT) by the UK Visa and Immigration Authority (UKVI) for UK Student and Work Visa applications.
It is essential that you know that LanguageCert Academic and General SELT tests, independently evaluated by UK ENIC (formerly UK NARIC), are specifically designed for individuals who wish to apply for a UK student visa or work visa that requires proof of English language proficiency. Despite maintaining a candidate-centric approach, these multi-level tests are calibrated to the CEFR and meet the Home Office specifications and visa requirements.
More than 350,000 people travel to the UK every year for studies, and 190,000 workers applied for UK Skilled Worker and Health & Care Worker visas in the year 2022. For people who need to certify their English language skills, the LanguageCert Academic SELT test and the LanguageCert General SELT test are the ideal solution.
In response to the growing demand from institutions for English proficiency tests that can be used within academic settings, LanguageCert Academic was developed in response to the need for a test that can assess English proficiency. There are three parts to the test. The first part covers language use in an academic context, including vocabulary and expressions needed for various essential tasks, such as interactions with tutors, peers, and college staff as well as comprehension of lectures, seminars, and academic reference materials.. As part of the assessment, students are also assessed on the language and skills needed for academic success, including essay writing, presentation skills, note taking, and the ability to formulate arguments

Designed for non-native English speakers preparing for professional employment in the UK, LanguageCert General is geared towards preparing them for this task. Like LanguageCert Academic, the General test evaluates listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills as well as language proficiency based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
As well as extensive pretesting and trialling of the test materials to ensure fairness, fitness-for-purpose, and comparability, both tests are backed by extensive support and practice materials available to ensure that the tests can be taken accurately and fairly.
According to Marios Molfetas, Chief Languages Officer at LanguageCert, "We are devoted to developing and delivering high-quality language assessments that enhance the lives and educational journeys of individuals around the globe." In order to provide a secure, relevant, and reliable testing environment for our diverse user base, LanguageCert Academic and General represent our commitment to continually evaluating and meeting their evolving needs."??
Using the existing LanguageCert SELT Centre network, the new SELT tests will be delivered worldwide and will incorporate user-friendly, state-of-the-art and highly-secure technology. It is possible for test takers to schedule and take their LanguageCert Academic and General SELT tests from 19 December 2023. Test takers will have access to frequent and flexible test availability and will receive official results within five days of the test.
In addition to the current LanguageCert ESOL 4-skills SELT provision for work and study visas, both tests will be offered concurrently with the existing LanguageCert ESOL 4-skills SELT provision which remains approved for UKVI until further notice.
Since early 2020, LanguageCert has been providing UK Home Office-approved language tests that align with CEFR standards. The company has been providing these tests with the help of the UK Home Office since early 2020, and has been trusted by hundreds of thousands of test takers in over 120 countries across the world.
