It is with great pleasure that Code 19 Racing announces its participation in the inaugural season of the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL), the world's first professional autonomous racing team. This groundbreaking new league is a significant milestone for the rapidly emerging sport of autonomous racing, which is demonstrating the growing global interest in this innovative form of motorsport.
As a result of its military roots, the Indianapolis-based team is honored to represent the United States in this global competition. According to Lawrence Walter, Team Principal of Code19 Racing, "We're here to win." "A2RL is the R&D playground for AI Technologies, providing corporate partners with unique and exciting opportunities. The team is ready to compete against the best minds worldwide in autonomous technology, while also carrying the torch of American innovation in the autonomous world."
The team is attracting top global talent to build Maveric AI, their second autonomous racing driver. As a part of Luddy AI, a partnership between Indiana University's Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering, the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Crane, and Code19 Racing (Luddy AI Partnership), Maveric joins Luddy AI. Indy Autonomous Challenge sim race last week, Luddy Al made an impressive debut, demonstrating its potential as a real-life racing tool.
In addition to its significant long-term backing, A2RL is the largest autonomous racing league in the world, with ten teams competing in Dallara Super Formula 23 race cars that are capable of reaching speeds of 180 mph. There will be ten teams competing in the first season for a prize pool exceeding $2.25 million, which is one of the world's wealthiest racing competitions. The A2RL team combines artificial intelligence (AI), autonomy, and extreme sports to push the boundaries of future mobility.
As the Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League Executive Director, Dr. Thomas McCarthy expressed his excitement at Code19 Racing joining the league. "Code19 Racing is a disruptor with a clear vision for the future," McCarthy said. "We are confident that they will be a strong competitor in A2RL, and we look forward to seeing what they can accomplish."
As part of Code19 Racing's engagement platform, which aims to educate and inspire the next generation of AI and autonomy experts, the company aims to build a global fan base. Through its persona, a generative AI avatar, Maveric AI will be the brand ambassador, providing fans with interactive content and experiences while telling Code19 Racing's story.
A sports franchise based on artificial intelligence will allow us to connect with students and inspire a diverse STEM workforce," Walter said. In order for racing and the world to succeed in the future, we believe that diversity of thought is a vital component of success. We will use our platform to make a positive impact on the world.
There will be an unforgettable spectacle of autonomous racing innovation and adrenaline-pumping competition at the Yas Marina Circuit on April 28, 2024, when the first season of the A2RL will be held at the Yas Marina Circuit. Code 19 Racing is embarking on a groundbreaking journey, pushing the boundaries of autonomous racing and inspiring a new era of motorsports. The future series of A2RL will showcase drones and off-road vehicles that will be controlled by algorithms.
