In the last two years, the fleet of heavy-duty XCIENT Fuel Cell trucks operated by Hyundai Motor Company in Switzerland has travelled more over 5 million kilometres, the company reported today.
The company will begin exporting 47 of the zero-emission, hydrogen-powered commercial trucks to 23 Swiss businesses in 2020. These businesses will use the trucks for distribution, logistics, and grocery fulfilment.
According to Mark Freymueller, Senior Vice President and Head of Commercial Vehicle Business Innovation at Hyundai Motor Company, “XCIENT Fuel Cell is the world’s first heavy-duty fuel cell truck to reach 5 million km of cumulative driving in real-life customer operation.” “Many nations who are getting ready to make the transition to a sustainable hydrogen society will benefit from the expertise we’ve gained and the milestone we’ve reached in Switzerland. We’ll take this firm across Europe based on its established track record of success in Switzerland.”
In conjunction with the Swiss company H2 Energy, which in turn teamed with the H2 Mobility Switzerland Association, a network builder and XCIENT client, and the environmentally friendly hydrogen manufacturing firm Hydrospider, Hyundai Motor founded Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility (HHM) in 2019. Hyundai Motor is a key player in developing an ecosystem for green hydrogen fuel cell heavy-duty trucks that integrates vehicle supply, hydrogen refuelling, and green hydrogen manufacturing.
