Clarivate and OCLC Resolve Legal Conflict

In order to speed up innovation, Clarivate Plc (NYSE: CLVT), a leader in providing reliable information and insights, today announced that it has reached a settlement and release with OCLC.

Clarivate continues to refute OCLC’s accusations of wrongdoing and maintains that OCLC and its users were at fault for trying to co-develop a productive community platform for exchanging bibliographic records. Clarivate will not create a MARC record interchange system that contains records that, according to OCLC, are constrained by its policy and contractual obligations. Clarivate will pay all fees and expenses on its own.

Clarivate’s Chief Product Officer, Gordon Samson, insisted, “Because we think it’s the greatest way to make research and learning processes quicker, more reliable, and more transparent, Clarivate will continue to promote open research and data exchange goals. No matter the commercial model, when scholarly material is simple to access and exchange, connections can be made more easily, connections can be made more clearly, and collaborations can happen more easily and meaningfully. The pace of scientific discovery is accelerating, and repeatability and integrity of the study are easier to guarantee. We continue to be dedicated to assisting our customers in making the move to open research as painless as possible since we recognise how crucial it is to them.”
