In conjunction with the official distributor Arab Consulting Office (ACO), Sungrow, the world’s leading inverter and energy storage supplier for renewables, announced the formal delivery of a series of solar projects in the host city upon the arrival of the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP 27) in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt.
These projects will collectively generate over 80GWh of clean electricity and abate about 55 000 tonnes of CO2 annually. These initiatives will also provide energy for hotels, airports, government buildings, conference centres, and other commercial, transportation, and tourism infrastructure that will be utilised during COP27 and aid in the transformation of Sharm el-Sheikh into a green city.
The Egypt government launched a set of initiatives to transform Sharm el-Sheikh into an integrated sustainable metropolis, among which switching to clean power is a crucial one, in order to demonstrate the governmental determination and support to combat climate change. Many RE players, like ENI, Hassan Allam Utilities, TAQA Arabia, Intro for Sustainable Resources, Altawakol Electric Gila & Solarize, etc. were motivated by the green initiatives to create solar projects that would provide clean electricity to nearby residents and businesses. For these significant projects, Sungrow has been chosen as the inverter supplier. These projects include the largest clean energy solar plant in Sharm el-Sheikh, 20 MW with TAQA Arabia, supplying clean electricity to more than 6,000 hotel rooms, which will house distinguished guests of this international event.
