In advance of the launch of Viasat’s next-generation satellite constellation, ViaSat-3, Cobham Satcom, a leading global provider of satellite communications solutions to the maritime and land segments, and Viasat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT), a global communications company, announced today that they are working together on a brand-new, cutting-edge satellite connectivity solution for the maritime and energy industries.

The connection system is being painstakingly constructed to enable cutting-edge, high-speed connectivity that will take advantage of the enormous satellite capacity anticipated from the ViaSat-3 constellation. It will comprise a portfolio of ground-breaking antenna systems from Cobham Satcom. It is projected that each of the three ViaSat-3 satellites will carry at least 1 Terabit of data per second (1Tbps), or 1,000 Gigabits per second, giving the ability to manage growing numbers of data-hungry applications. The partnership will also see the release of the first upgrade kit in the market, enabling the conversion of current Ku and other Ka band services to Viasat services.
