The “Global Life Assistance Robot Contest Innovation Challenge 2023” (hereafter “GIC Competition”), sponsored by the Tokyo-based Global Innovation Challenge Executive Committee (hereafter “GIC Executive Committee”), will be held in 2023 at the “GIC Tsukuba Innovation Center” in Tsukuba City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, with a total prize pool of one million US dollars.

In May and June of 2023, a competition will be held to encourage scientists and engineers all over the world to create innovative devices that help people who use wheelchairs due to conditions like paralysis “walk independently” (*) without the assistance of a caregiver.

The ability to walk without assistance from others or a wheelchair is considered independent walking for the purposes of this contest for those with disabilities such as paralysis.
