JIOS Aerogel, a frontrunner in the development of key components for electric car batteries, has announced plans to open a cutting-edge manufacturing in Singapore.
With funding from the Singapore Economic Development Board, the facility will employ an innovative automated production process (EDB).
Production on the company’s Pilot Line will begin in the first quarter of 2023, after the first pieces of manufacturing equipment have been delivered to the plant in December 2022. When completed in the fourth quarter of 2023, JIOS’s fully automated line will be able to produce the full range of Thermal BladeTM products for the company, which reduce the risk of thermal runaway in the batteries of electric vehicles.
The EDB, which is part of Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry, has provided funding to help bring the JIOS Aerogel facility online. The Economic Development Board (EDB) develops and implements policies to promote Singapore’s image as a leading business, innovation, and talent hub around the world.
With automakers expected to spend $1.2 trillion in the next 8 years on EVs, batteries, and materials, JIOS is investing to meet the rising demand for its products. This funding will be used to make aerogel-based materials, which take advantage of several technological advances made by scientists at the JIOS Innovation Centre in Singapore.
