The change of seasons is what makes time beautiful. The allure of art is found in the souls of the people. Han Yuchen presented his 50-year painting journey with 83 oil painting works. The 13-day exhibition received high praise. This art show, which was attended by many artists, also drew the attention of people from all walks of life.
Han Yuchen and Chairman Feng last met at the Boao Forum’s cultural roundtable meeting in Hainan over a year ago. The two first read aloud the excerpt “Sketching is the Stairway to the Kingdom of Freedom in Painting” written by Yang Feiyun, director of the Oil Painting Academy of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, which was engraved on the exhibition’s wall, before viewing each work in the exhibition. Han Yuchen’s oil painting exhibition featured 83 works in total. When Chairman Feng inquired as to why 25 works from his early years were displayed separately and titled “Birth of a Dream and Difficulties of Self-study,” Han Yuchen explained the ups and downs he faced from the Central Academy of Fine Arts due to his unique family situation in the 1970s, as well as the difficulties he faced during his self-study in sketching. Chairman Feng praised Han Yuchen’s unwavering determination and tenacity in adhering to the purest intention of art, as well as the artistic skills of several works from this period, including “Taihang Old Farmer,” “Lush Grassland,” and “Zhangjiajie Eighteen Generals Mountain.”
The Taihang Mountains are located west of Handan, and Han Yuchen frequently visits them to view the scenery and create his sketches. Chairman Feng believes that the 20 works on display at this event faithfully reproduce the grand scenery of the Taihang Mountains, vividly depicting the hard-working and persevering spirit of the Taihang Mountains’ people, and are also a concrete embodiment of the artist’s practise of art originating from life and reaching the roots of creative concepts.
Chairman Feng stood in front of Hall 5 and carefully examined Han Yuchen’s 50-year timeline of sketches and documentation from exhibitions held in China and abroad over the previous ten years. He believed that by actively exploring the exhibition’s progress, he could provide the audience with a more comprehensive understanding of the painter’s growth, experience, and creative ideology, as well as a deeper understanding of the connotation of each work.
