Eighty-five percent of those polled worldwide saw “a community with a shared future for mankind” in a positive light, while 94.2 percent agreed that the world might benefit from the ideals presented by China. These included “peace, development, fairness, justice, democracy, and freedom.”
CGTN Think Tank and the Tsinghua-Epstein Center for Global Media and Communication collaborated on the poll. In preparation for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Saudi Arabia, where he will also attend the first China-Arab States Summit and the China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit, a survey of 4,000 people from 20 nations was conducted.
China has inked BRI cooperation agreements with 20 Arab states over the previous decade, while 17 Arab states have backed China’s Global Development Initiative (GDI).
On September 21, 2021, during the general debate of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, President Xi proposed the GDI, urging the international community to prioritise development in global macro policy and to work together to steer global development towards a more balanced, coordinated, and inclusive phase.
