CGTN: Win-win possibilities give rise to deeper China-Arab energy cooperation

31 0

The Arab nations, which are situated at the confluence of Asia, Africa, and Europe, are well-known throughout the world for their exceptional geographic location and plentiful energy resources.

One of the key pillars of the China-Arab collaboration is energy cooperation, which has steadily grown in recent years thanks to multiple win-win successes.

China imports seventy percent of its oil needs. China imported 265 million tonnes of crude oil from Arab nations in 2021, making up 51.6% of the country’s total imports.

Nearly 2 billion people have benefited from the more than 200 large-scale infrastructure and energy cooperation projects that have been completed to date.

China-Arab collaboration in new energy

The Middle East has the highest rate of solar radiation exposure on earth, with Saudi Arabia housing the biggest wind photovoltaic base.

Through sizable new energy projects, the nations in the region are pursuing energy diversification. Saudi Arabia reiterated its five-year goal in March of last year to use renewable energy for 50% of its total energy by 2030.
