Less than two weeks after its official release, top C-pop artist Chenyu Hua’s new album topped the platform’s annual album sales chart with sales exceeding RMB20 million (more than 760,000 copies sold), according to a recent announcement from Cloud Music Inc. (HKEX: 9899, “NetEase Cloud Music” or the “Company”), a leading interactive music streaming service provider in China.
Following its December 2022 release on NetEase Cloud Music, Chenyu Hua’s fifth album, “(Xiwang) Hope,” achieved immediate popularity, selling more than 100,000 copies in a single minute and more than 300,000 copies in just 35 minutes. By the end of 2022, the new album had sold over 760,000 copies, generating over RMB20 million in revenue. In addition to becoming the best-selling digital album of 2022, it rose to the fourth spot on the list of all-time best-sellers on NetEase Cloud Music’s sales chart. According to a third party database[1,] the recently released album swiftly established itself as the fourth best-selling digital album of 2022 (by total sales amount) across all online music outlets in China.
The collaboration between Chenyu Hua and NetEase Cloud Music on this album is even more extensive. In the past, NetEase Cloud Music awarded Chenyu Hua’s fourth album, “New World,” the title of “Best-selling Digital Album of 2020.” Nearly 1.85 million copies of the album, which was released on NetEase Cloud Music in April 2020, have been sold overall, for a total of almost RMB37 million.
