Keer HU is a freshman in the Bioengineering and Translational Medicine programme at the Institute of Biopharmaceutical and Health Engineering (iBHE), Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School (SIGS). As a young designer, she has worked on numerous projects and received numerous awards and exhibition invitations both at home and abroad, including the winner of The James Dyson Award funded by a British invention foundation and the Grand Prize in the Future Fashion Technology Competition hosted by Tsinghua University. She is also the first Chinese participant to receive the Outstanding Science Prize at the Biodesign Challenge.

She attempted to innovate in one of her projects, a Wearable Self-driven Cyanobacteria Power Generation Material, by integrating knowledge of microorganisms, energy, materials, and product design to address sustainability challenges. Her research has also been shown at the Triennale di Milano, New York Design Week, the World Design Cities Conference, and numerous other international exhibitions.

She claims that when she devotes herself to issues of human health and sustainable development, she gains a tremendous sense of self-worth. She chose to begin her future studies at iBHE, Tsinghua SIGS to pursue her strong cross-disciplinary research interest at the intersection of biology, engineering, and design.

When asked about her study experience at iBHE, she stated, “For interdisciplinary students like her, Tsinghua SIGS offers an open and inclusive academic exchange platform as well as numerous opportunities for industry-academia-research collaboration. It is an excellent environment for me to improve my scientific literacy and innovative abilities through more specialised studies and research. Mentors and course instructors both welcome academic communication. At the same time, students can learn a great deal from seniors and classmates from various professional backgrounds. Furthermore, the campus life here is full of joy and excitement; I had a great time and learned a lot by participating in sports events, entrepreneurial events, cultural activities, and student organisation building activities. Studying here is unquestionably a wise decision!”
