We will be saying goodbye to 2023 and welcoming 2024 with CGTN's 24-hour, non-stop "Read a Poem" livestreaming event in seven major cities worldwide on Sunday as we ring in the New Year with friends and family from all over the world.
With guests in Sydney, Xi'an, Changsha, Almaty, Cairo, Paris, Mexico City, and Sydney starting the event at 08:00 GMT (16:00 Beijing Time), it will be a 24-hour event. In front of our streaming camera, residents of those seven cities will be asked to discuss their New Year resolutions, recite poems, or send wishes to others in front of our streaming camera.

It will be a pleasure to meet overseas Chinese and locals in Sydney during the New Year to toast the New Year and to explore the cultural differences and similarities between Chinese and Australian cultures. As well as celebrating the first dawn of 2024, we will also enjoy the city's famous fireworks show on New Year's Eve.
It will be our pleasure to take you on a tour of the "The Longest Day in Chang'an" Theme Park in Xi'an, the capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, to see some of the most exquisite ancient dances and music from the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The first thing we will do when we arrive in Changsha, the capital city of Hunan Province, is to visit the Taiping historic street for some authentic Hunan cuisine and also to appreciate the delicate porcelain artifacts on display in the Changsha Tongguan Kiln Museum. At the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo in the Permanent Exhibition Hall, we will also be able to learn more about the cultural, commercial, and economic ties between China and Africa. In the meantime, viewers are able to connect with pals online from around the world while enjoying the lyrical beauty of poetry through the use of social media

In Almaty, Kazakhstan, we will be inviting Chinese people living overseas as well as local friends to Abai Square, which is named after Abai Kunanbayev, a seasoned poet from the country, to discover the beauty of traditional handicrafts from China and Kazakhstan as well as the allure of regional music and dance.
In Cairo, we will take a boat ride along the Nile River, and celebrate along its banks with local drummers and musicians. We will also sing the songs of Egyptian poets and artists as we welcome the upcoming New Year.
The next stop on our journey will be the Chinese Cultural Center in Paris, where we will meet with local hanfu fans, Chinese expats, and art world heavyweights, as well as enjoy a splendid view of Paris while we welcome the New Year.
Last but not least, we will join the residents and Mexican internet users in Mexico City's famous Angel of Independence statue to celebrate New Year's Eve in the traditional way.
