I'M IN WESTMINSTER, COLORADO.The 11th of November. It has been announced today that Advanced Space, one of the world's leading space technology solutions companies, has successfully operated the Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment (CAPSTONE) mission on the Moon for a full year in orbit around the Moon.. By logging over 365 days of continuous operations in the cislunar environment, the company is now in an exclusive category of companies that have reached this milestone. With Advanced Space's experience as the first company to operate a commercial satellite on the Moon, the company has gained valuable insights about cislunar operations that can only be gained from hands-on experience with cislunar spaceflight

CAPSTONE has maintained its unique Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO) throughout the course of the year in support of NASA's Artemis program, gathering data over the course of the year to assist in the planning for future operations of the lunar Gateway space station.. A novel spacecraft-to-spacecraft navigation technology, the Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System (CAPS), has also been demonstrated on the CAPSTONE mission. Additionally, the mission has investigated the incorporation of one-way uplink measurements using an onboard Chip Scale Atomic Clock (CSAC), one of the first to fly on the Moon.

In the past year, CAPSTONE has maintained its unique Near Rectilinear Halo Orbit (NRHO) to gather data in support of NASA's Artemis program that will guide future operations of the Lunar Gateway space station during its lifetime.. The CAPSTONE mission has also demonstrated a novel spacecraft-to-spacecraft navigation technology called the Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System (CAPS) and explored incorporating one-way uplink measurements through an onboard Chip Scale Atomic Clock (CSAC), which is one of the first ever flown on the Moon.

We have gained a great deal of insight from our experience at the Moon, as well as lessons learned, that will prove invaluable as we continue to build the infrastructure that will support current and future lunar activities.. We would like to thank our incredible team for their dedication, as they worked through challenges and implemented solutions in real-time to get us here today" states Advanced Space CEO and President Bradley Cheetham.. We are also grateful for the support that NASA and our partners have provided throughout this historic journey.

Currently, Advanced Space is in the midst of its Enhanced Mission Phase with NASA, its primary customer, and with around 50% of its fuel remaining, the company is reaching out to its customers and the community to discuss how additional on-orbit experiments could be conducted with the existing on-board computer and surplus fuel available.
There is no doubt that space exploration deepens our understanding of our planet Earth, the moon, and what lies beyond. Colorado's aerospace economy and Advanced Space are spearheading American innovation to help us maintain our leadership in space," said U.S. Senator John Hickenlooper.
Here are a few things you need to know about CAPSTONETM:
The company Advanced Space owns and operates the CubeSat CAPSTONETM. CAPSTONE was the first CubeSat to fly in cislunar space – the orbital area near and around the Moon – and demonstrated an innovative navigation technology between spacecraft. The mission was launched on June 28, 2022. The mission was supported by the following key partners:
ADVANCED SPACE (https://advancedspace.com) is a space exploration company. As part of its ongoing commitment to the sustainable exploration, development, and settlement of space, SpaceX (http://satellites.com/) provides software, services, and expert knowledge to help improve the fundamentals of space exploration, development, and settlement. Dedicated to improving flight dynamics technology development and accelerating turn-key missions to the Moon, Mars, and beyond, Advanced Space is dedicated to improving flight dynamics technology development. There have been several awards given to the team, including the AIAA Small Spacecraft Mission of the Year (2022), the Commercial Spaceflight Federation Award, and the NASA Honor Group Achievement Award..
