AI Adoption among Software Testers at 78%, reliability and skill gap the biggest challenges

It has been revealed that 78% of software testing professionals from 70 different countries have already adopt artificial intelligence in their workflows based on a new LambdaTest "Future of Quality Assurance 2023" study based on 1,615 software testing professionals from 70 different countries.
There is also a new research from LambdaTest that indicates that companies are taking steps in order to enhance the reliability of their software, with 72% of organizations involving testers in sprint planning sessions, a significant shift towards software quality being considered earlier in the software development lifecycle, resulting in a significant shift towards this goal. In spite of this, small businesses are lagging behind in this metric, as only 61.60% of them involve testers in every sprint.
Amongst these efficiency improvements, the survey shows that there has been rapid adoption of artificial intelligence technologies amongst these efficiency improvements. Software testers have reported using artificial intelligence to automate the creation of test data (51%), write code for automated tests (45%), analyze and report test results (36%), and formulate test cases (46%).
One of the key findings of the study was that, despite the fact that 89% of organizations automate the deployment and running of tests using Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) tools, 45% of organizations still trigger automated tests manually, and only a small percentage use CI/CD tools effectively when running automated tests.
Additionally, the study revealed that there remain gaps when it comes to software testing. It was found that 74% of teams did not follow a structured approach to running tests, which resulted in a loss of efficiency and potential overlooking of factors such as risk levels and feedback from customers. More than 48% of teams do not have even the most basic Test Intelligence and observability systems in place to measure software reliability.
Asad Khan, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of LambdaTest, said in a statement: "At LambdaTest, we understand that while AI adoption is a significant step forward, the journey doesn't end here.". In our study, for example, we highlight the importance of addressing bottlenecks affecting productivity, such as flaky tests and the amount of time wasted on setting up and maintaining test environments, as well as addressing flaky tests.. The opportunity as well as the challenge here is to create the right tooling that will empower teams to efficiently address these bottlenecks and drive software quality in their processes as a result of this.
