TÜV Rheinland invited Carota, an international supplier of Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrading solutions for the Internet of Things, to a ceremony where it was awarded the IEC 60335 Annex U certificate of conformity.
The expanding usage of software in contemporary home appliances and the rise of internet-connected devices are both covered by the IEC 60335 Annex U certificate of conformity. The certification ensures that these appliances remain safe for consumers to use throughout their lifespan, especially when connected to public networks via IoT devices. This is because consumer electronics are increasingly using programmable electronic circuits and software is playing a significant role in many household appliances.
To prevent unwanted access and guarantee the security of remote communication via public networks, new requirements were added to Annex U of the IEC 60335-1:2020 safety regulations, which were published in September 2020. Businesses exporting home appliances to Europe must comply with this criteria. To help businesses adhere to the design specifications of Annex U, TÜV Rheinland offers specialised testing and evaluation programmes for a variety of goods, including floor-cleaning robots, mowing robots, smart air conditioners, and smart washing machines. By delivering hardware and software solutions that are compatible and meet Annex U standards, decreasing the time and cost of certification, and guaranteeing that product safety and user experience are not compromised, this aids businesses in their product research and development processes. This supports the long-term development of the IoT smart ecology.
