CGTN: China speaks up for peace, justice at BRICS summit on Palestinian-Israeli issue
An extraordinary virtual summit on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict took place on Tuesday among leaders of the BRICS countries.As part of the summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an immediate ceasefire as the first step towards achieving lasting peace and security in the region.Ensure that humanitarian disasters are preventedAs Xi pointed out, the parties to the conflict must end hostilities and achieve a ceasefire immediately, cease all violence against civilians and attacks against civilians, as well as release all civilians who have been imprisoned.According to Xi, there is an urgent need for the humanitarian corridors to remain secure and unobstructed, and for more humanitarian assistance to be provided to Gaza's population.There must be an end to the collective punishments that are being imposed on the people in Gaza through forced transfers or the deprivation of water, electricity, and fuel, said Xi.In a statement issued on Sunday, he urged the international community to act with practical measures to prevent the conflict from spilling over and endangering the stability of the region.It has been reported that China has provided $2 million of emergency humanitarian assistance through the Palestinian National Authority and United Nations (UN) agencies to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
