It is expected that the meeting of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change will be characterized by a different form of participation: in addition to the traditionally attired representatives of countries, 25 children's testimonies will be heard from 12 countries. A number of people are speaking out about how they have been affected by the climate emergency and are calling on the authorities to take effective action to address the situation. UNICEF and Alana Films collaborated on the production of the films. Children are one of the most affected by the climate emergency and they represent around one third of the world's population (around 2.2 billion people), with more than half (more than 1 billion) currently living in places where severe climate risks exist, particularly in the Global South. Over one out of every four deaths caused by unhealthy environments in the world today is attributed to unhealthy environments among children under 5 years of age. 
The fact remains that children do not have a voice or are not taken into account when it comes to the COP agenda and negotiations which will define their lives as a result. Over the last 30 years since the entry into force of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, there has never been a decision that focuses on the protection of children and adolescents.
There is no doubt that climate change is about children. We must protect their futures - it is a matter of fact. The powerful testimonials of children like these need to be the last thing that negotiators hear before they enter discussions that will determine what kind of world these children will grow up in. According to UNICEF global climate change lead Gautam Narasimhan, "We can only hope they listen." 
As JP Amaral, the Nature Manager at Alana, explains, 'Children are not just victims; they are also active agents of change. We have seen children stand up all over the world and push for solutions. They have the right to be a part of decisions that affect them'.
