Novelis Inc., a leading provider of sustainable aluminium solutions and a global pioneer in the rolling and recycling of aluminium, today announced the launch of a closed-loop recycling partnership with Smart Press Shop (SPS), a Halle (Saale), Germany-based partnership between Porsche AG and Schuler Group.

The Smart Press Shop receives flat rolled aluminium products from Novelis’ Nachterstedt, Germany, facility, and Novelis transports production waste created during the SPS manufacturing process back to Nachterstedt. The scrap is recycled by Novelis into fresh, high-quality rolled sheet, which is then delivered back to SPS and put back into the manufacturing loop where it is converted into environmentally friendly, lightweight vehicle body parts. Recycling aluminium results in 95% less energy and CO2 emissions than producing aluminium from scratch. As a result, it is anticipated that the Novelis-SPS alliance will reduce carbon emissions by up to 100,000 tonnes annually.
