Dr. Henry A. Kissinger will receive the first Lifetime Achievement Award in honour of his contributions to U.S.-China relations over a lifetime and as a trailblazer. Economic and trade links have been a crucial engine for the bilateral relationship for the past 40 years. Dr. Kissinger has consistently served as a source of inspiration for advancing trade cooperation and a steadfast advocate for the development of both nations as a whole.
Dr. Kissinger, who served as the first official U.S. envoy to China during his tenure as the 56th Secretary of State of the United States from 1973 to 1977, has travelled to China more than 100 times over the past 50 years. His historic efforts paved the way for the normalisation of relations between the two countries, which was followed by decades of cross-border investment, trade, growth, and prosperity. He was acting as a representative of the diplomatic wisdom of generations, breaking the ice and facilitating the handshake across the Pacific.
