Elcomsoft Introduces the Linux Edition of its Forensic iOS Extraction Tool

46 0
A major update to the company's mobile forensic extraction tool for Apple devices, the iOS Forensic Toolkit 8.50, has been released by ElcomSoft. With this update, the company introduces a Linux edition of the tool, which enables forensic extractions of Apple devices from Linux-based machines as well.
The Linux edition supports forensically sound bootloader-level extraction, a feature previously available only in macOS. As a result of this, experts who do not have access to a Mac will have access to an opportunity to carry out true forensically sound extractions of more than ten generations of Apple devices, including the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and iPhone X.
The release of ElcomSoft's Linux edition is ElcomSoft's final step in ensuring true multiplatform compatibility of its tool. The tool has been tested on multiple Linux distributions, officially supporting the current versions of Debian, Ubuntu, Kali Linux, and Mint Linux distributions.
Extraction of Bootloader-Level Information from iOS Versions with Accurate Identification
There was an improvement in the toolkit's ability to identify the installed iOS version during bootloader-level extraction, since previously it could attempt to guess the installed iOS version based on the bootloader version of the device, which could result in several potential matches. The new approach achieves a near 100% accuracy of the identification of the iOS version, eliminating any ambiguity in the extraction process.
Extraction at a low level for Apple Watch S0 through S2
It has been added to the update that older models of Apple Watch are now supported, allowing macOS and Linux users to extract more data from them, such as passwords and complete file systems. These older models include the original Apple Watch, Apple Watch Series 1, and Apple Watch Series 2.
