Data breaches are unavoidable. According to Bitdefender’s recent research, 60% of firms have experienced a data breach in the previous three years, and the trend indicates no signs of slowing down.

Even as businesses embrace new technologies, the security landscape and attacker capabilities are becoming increasingly difficult. Businesses are confronted with more cybersecurity threats than ever before. 

According to a data from Bitdefender, nearly 57 percent of IT professionals claim their cybersecurity measures have worked, and 26% of the IT professionals still believe their firms are being breached without their knowledge.

As per the study, the most serious dangers nowadays are whaling or phishing attacks, which account for 36% of all risks. Trojans come in second with 29%, followed by Ransomware with 28%. Almost a quarter of InfoSec experts said their firm has experienced data breaches in the first half of the year at the end of July 2019. And, with the pandemic taking over the market in the next two years, the security risks have only got worse.

However, IT professionals must be concerned about more than just an increasingly complex threat landscape. Firms face an undeniable threat from poor cybersecurity.

From insufficient training and financial constraints to a scarcity of resources and talent, cybersecurity teams are under great pressure to guarantee their businesses are secure and their staff are adequately trained. Over half of security professionals, or 53%, have contemplated quitting their present position due to a lack of resources, both in terms of manpower and financial resources.

Businesses may suffer hazardous consequences like as compliance and fines if they do not begin investing the money, resources, and time into their cybersecurity infrastructure. In reality, the GDPR penalties levied this year have dramatically increased. However, IT professionals are most concerned about company interruptions (43 %) and reputational damage (up to 38 percent ). With the media’s continued focus on cybersecurity breaches, firms that are left vulnerable to an assault may face inevitable consequences. 

Focusing on educating staff and guaranteeing up-to-date cybersecurity training is the best way for businesses to genuinely rise to the top of their cybersecurity pyramid. Improving data protection and faster detection with swift response capabilities is one of the major reasons for increasing an organization’s cybersecurity. When it comes to recognising and protecting against a cyber threat, time is the main deciding factor. Cyber dangers can be isolated and remedied considerably more quickly by agile businesses. 

The use of tools such as “network traffic analysis” and antiviral technologies will aid in the discovery of threats as a result of the technological transition. Having a secure perimeter may be the most important defence against cyberattacks. Surprisingly, 70% of InfoSec experts feel that endpoint security detection and response can help avoid future attacks.

Finally, businesses must assess whether their present cybersecurity approach is enough for the job. Organizations, on the other hand, cannot rely on a single technique to successfully defend themselves against a cyberattack. Safety nets are kept alive by a multi-pronged approach.
