Teamsters local union representatives from North American Central School Bus gathered today to unanimously support the Illinois Cooperative Agreement.
Before the end of the month, the proposed five-year contract will go before the membership for a democratic ratification vote.
The Teamsters Passenger Transportation Division Director, Matt Taibi, stated that this agreement “brings all of our members at North American Central School Bus under a single, unified contract with a baseline standard covering all Teamsters at this company.” This will enable us to grow in numbers and, as a result, improve working conditions and wages for all North American Central employees.
The contract, which was the first to be negotiated with the involvement of rank-and-file members, contains a number of important noteworthy innovations. These include stronger safeguards for disabled members, updated safety language in light of the epidemic, and the creation of a joint union/employer council to settle conflicts. Notably, it is the first contract at the company under which participants will be required to pay company-mandated contributions to the Teamsters National 401(k) plan.
