The number of reports of possible child sexual exploitation received by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline in 2021 increased by 35% from that of 2020 to 29.3 million.

International law enforcement agencies are handed these reports for inquiry. Material has transitioned to being housed in Europe over the past five years, with the majority—two thirds—of it now being hosted in the EU (European Commission).

This problem has led to significant redundancy and restricted ability to quickly identify first-generation CSAM (child sexual abuse material) and other high-priority leads, along with the rapidly increasing volume of NCMEC reports flooding agencies’ backlogs.
