MDA ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC EXPANSION IN THE UK

There is no doubt that MDA Ltd., one of the largest providers of advanced technology and services to the rapidly expanding global space industry, will be doubling its UK workforce and operational footprint within the next year as it announces plans to more than double its workforce by the end of the year. In conjunction with the UK Space Conference 2023, which took place in Belfast earlier this week, MDA announced plans to expand its talent base and operational capacity across the UK as the global space economy continues to grow.
As part of its UK expansion, MDA has announced plans to hire 75 new employees in the UK by the end of 2024, almost double its current UK workforce of 75 employees. As a company, we are actively recruiting for entry-level positions as well as senior positions in critical engineering disciplines such as systems, payload, antenna, software, electronics, assembly, integration, and testing.
The UK has a vibrant space industry with highly skilled technology talent that we will need to grow our global business, and as the global market for space-based technology continues to grow, we will be increasing our in-country investment," Anita Bernie, Managing Director of MDA UK, said. It is a well-known fact that the addition of the highly skilled digital payload team from SatixFy enabled us to quickly double our footprint. The intention is to double again. This means we need more of this kind of skill set."
MDA is also expanding its operational footprint across the UK to include the following services:
"MDA UK's expansion is fantastic news and will support a number of key priorities for the UK Space Agency in order to take advantage of the significant opportunities associated with the Low Earth Orbit economy and to continue to play a leading role in the development of advanced satellite technologies," Dr.. The Chief Executive of the UK Space Agency is Paul Bate. "I think this is one of the best examples of how the UK can become one of the world's most innovative and attractive space economies in the next few years, catalyzing private investment and creating the jobs of tomorrow"

The announcement today represents MDA's second major investment in the UK this year. MDA completed the acquisition of SatixFy Communications Ltd., a digital payload division based in the UK, in October. As a result, MDA has been able to expand its market share in the UK and add strategic in-country capability to produce satellite payloads for the first time.
There is a need for transforming communication infrastructure across the UK and around the world so that people can work and learn online wherever they are in the world, thereby reducing connectivity gaps. This is why we are supporting the UK's pioneering space sector with a £160 million investment scheme - Connectivity in Low Earth Orbit - which will help to drive the development of next-generation satellite communications here in the UK, said Andrew Griffith MP, UK Minister of State for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology.. It is truly a positive sign that MDA has decided to expand its current operational footprint in the UK and double its UK workforce.. As we move forward in our mission to build one of the most innovative and attractive space economies in the world, this is further proof that the government is providing the right support for researchers and businesses in this field.

It is also clear that the acquisition of SatixFy, which marks a substantial investment by MDA in the UK market, further supports the UK government's goal of maintaining its leadership in the growing market for satellite communications in the world.
When it comes to global expansion and investment, we are looking for more than just a market for our technology when it comes to international expansion and investment. The MDA is looking for countries with space ambitions, budgets and a space ecosystem that includes key talent that can fuel our growth, said Mike Greenley, CEO of MDA, in a statement.. I believe that the UK Space Agency is taking the type of holistic and highly strategic approach to industrial development and investment that we look for in terms of industrial development and investment, with innovative programs such as the C-LEO program that focus specifically on developing satellite communications payloads and systems.
