Ottonomy has announced a trial partnership with Posten Norge AS and Holo to automate the first mile of delivery, further paving the way for autonomous delivery.

This collaboration with a major logistics provider in Europe is meant to explore the potential of autonomous robots to enhance intra-city logistics. Ottobots will be used by Posten Norge to perform first-mile pickups, deliveries, and inventory management in the bustling Aker Brygge neighbourhood of Oslo, where the company will service the digital marketplace AMOI.

We want to evaluate how robots can become part of Posten’s future logistics solutions. This project, which utilises both humans and robots, offers many new opportunities for increasing efficiency and productivity for our organisation,” says Sven Richard Tnnessen from Posten’s Department of Emerging Technology. The intra-logistics portion of the supply chain will be handled by a robot, while the company will retain its current staff of human couriers to handle deliveries to clients.

Where do I even begin?
It has been difficult for businesses to cover the “first mile” in urban areas. Products are first delivered from the manufacturer’s or retailer’s warehouse to a distribution hub. Products are picked up from this point in the supply chain by a carrier, shipping company, or logistics partners and transported to the next stage of the final destination.
