MCLEAN, VA., Nov. 20, 2023 /PRNewswire/ -- QinetiQ US, has received a U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Tethered Aerostat Radar System (TARS) Operations & Maintenance (O&M) III contract from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which includes one base year and four option years, with a value of $170 million.
It is envisaged that the team will provide operations and sustainment efforts for the TARS program, which will include air, land, and maritime domain awareness, as well as enabling proactive and persistent detection and deterrence capabilities.. Additionally, the scope of work will include aerostat operations, air-surface radar operations, monitoring of ground control and data networking systems, as well as data analysis to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the program.. The CBP TARS program adds to our decades plus support for DHS and the CBP mission at our borders, while also providing us with the opportunity to utilize the extensive C5ISR portfolio, particularly persistence surveillance, that we have developed over the years. TARS operators use tethered aerostats to transmit vital data to DHS so that border activity can be monitored in real time through tethered aerostats. Moreover, this data is shared with the U.S. military and law enforcement agencies that conduct related air, maritime, and maritime missions as well. In addition to operating eight TARS sites, QinetiQ US and its partners will also operate six over the U.S.-Mexico border, one over the Florida Straits, and one in the northern Caribbean.
