Research consortium of Altair, JLR, and Danecca awarded funding through the Faraday Battery Challenge to create a new design process for electric vehicles
With the support of JLR and battery manufacturer Danecca, Altair (Nasdaq: ALTR), a global leader in computational science and artificial intelligence (AI), has announced that the company has received funding from the U.S. Department of Energy.. The Faraday Battery Challenge is an initiative of the government. It has been agreed that the three companies will form a consortium to support the development of a new design process for electric vehicles in the framework of a research project. Funding for the project comes from UK Research and Innovation, a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to support the development of battery technology in the United Kingdom. Funding for the project comes from UK Research and Innovation, a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) to support the development of battery technology in the United Kingdom. As a result of the new process, Altair technology will be used to develop prototypes of future vehicles with a new, lighter body that will provide more room for the battery without adding additional weight to the vehicle. There will be a new process that uses Altair technology to create prototype vehicles. The new vehicle models are going to have a new lightweight body that will allow for more room for the battery and won't add additional weight to the vehicle. For body-in-white structures, JLR will use Altair's C123 process, a unique three-stage design process developed by Altair. Additionally, they will employ Altair's new electrothermal features in the Altair® HyperWorks® design and simulation platform to optimize with Altair® OptiStructTM, a leading FEA solver in the Altair® HyperWorks® design and simulation platform. The Altair senior vice president of automotive, Royston Jones, said that his company is delighted to be collaborating with JLR and Danecca on this innovative project that will support the next generation of electric vehicles with innovative, energy-efficient designs. Altair's simulation and data analytics tools will be able to help the consortium develop a new design process for electric vehicles and batteries, which in turn will make these vehicles lighter and more energy efficient."Paul Haney, senior manager of battery technology at Jaguar Land Rover, said, "We are thrilled to be a part of such an innovative project and to have received funding from the U.K. government for the Faraday Battery Challenge." In our opinion, this research project with Altair and Danecca is a great step forward towards creating electric vehicles that will deliver sustainable e-mobility in the future.Danecca has the opportunity to advance the development of electric vehicles and battery technology by partnering with Altair and JLR on this innovative project, according to Danson Michael Joseph, Danecca managing director. In combination with Altair's simulation and optimization tools, we will be able to create more efficient battery installations which will power the next generation of electric vehicles due to our expertise in battery manufacturing.A project that will run from February 1, 2023, through January 31, 2025, will explore how to continuously improve the prototype vehicles after the components are ordered for them. The results of all the research will remain with JLR, Danecca, and Altair after the funding period has ended, and they will be able to be used by other customers or projects. Please visit https://www.ukri.org/what-we-offer/browse-our-areas-of-investment-and-support/faraday-battery-challenge/ for more information on the Faraday Battery Challenge.Altair - a brief overviewA global leader in the field of computational science and artificial intelligence (AI), Altair provides software and cloud solutions in simulation, high-performance computing (HPC), data analytics, and artificial intelligence.
