Salesforce.com (abbreviated as “SalesForce”) is a well-known cloud computing firm headquartered in San Francisco, California.

Despite the fact that the company’s primary source of revenue is CRM (customer relationship management) solutions, it has begun to penetrate the market for commercial applications of social networking sites by acquiring them.

SalesForce has various offices in addition to its headquarters in the United States, including a regional headquarters in Morges, Switzerland, which is responsible for handling markets in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, as well as Singapore operations. Other SalesForce regional headquarters are in India, with offices in Tokyo, Toronto, New York, Chicago, Sydney, Dublin, London, San Mateo, Hillsboro, and Hyderabad, covering Asia Pacific (excluding Japan) (India).

SalesForce’s corporate headquarters are in San Francisco, California, with multiple regional offices in major cities across the world.

Marc Benioff, a former Oracle executive, chose to start a software company that focused on the SaaS (Software as a Service) market in 1999.

Dave Moellenhoff, Frank Dominguez, and Parker Harris of Left Coast Software teamed up with him. In the same year, a group of seasoned developers created and published their first sales automation software.

With the innovative notion of SaaS, SalesForce was developed to create a niche in the software development business (Software as a Service). In 1999, the group of skilled software engineers produced their first sales automation program. Since then, the company has grown tremendously, and, in June 2004, it went public with an IPO on the New York Stock Exchange for an incredible $110 million.

SalesForce stated in October 2014 that it would create the Customer Success Platform, which would bring together the company’s various services such as mobile apps, community, marketing analytics, services, and software/product sales.

CRM services on SalesForce.com are divided into numerous divisions and business sectors, such as:

  1. SalesForce – The SalesForce1 Platform’s core enterprise provides client firms with a user interface for task and case management, also as an automatic routing and escalation system for significant events.
  2. Force.com is a PaaS (Platform as a Service) that allows third-party software developers to construct “Multi-Tenant” add-on apps that are directly connected with the primary SalesForce.com app.
  3. SalesForce1 – This is the SalesForce software’s mobile app (Android and iOS).
  4. Work.com – This is a motivational software that improves employee work performance through effective coaching, feedback, and an award system.
  5. Data.com (Jigsaw) is a cloud-based automated CRM acquisition and administration system that is linked to the user’s or client’s SalesForce account.
  6. Desk.com (Assistly) is a cloud-based customer service interaction and management solution featuring a variety of innovative and efficiency-enhancing features.
  7. Site.com — This gateway gives users access to the SalesForce Lightning app builder, which allows them to quickly create efficient and simple cloud-based apps.
  8. SOAP- This enables complete integration with other systems thanks to the SOAP/REST Web Service API.
  9. Sales Performance Accelerator combines the greatest aspects of CRM with Work.com and Data.com in this revolutionary tool.

Also, a noteworthy point is Salesforce’s venture capital investment in 2014 as the company established a startup fund to finance primarily mobile app development startups.

CSR Activities

SalesForce.com has pledged to cooperate with SalesForce.org to donate 1% of corporate resources (employee time, equity, and profit) to organizations that are working to ‘Make the World a Better Place.’ SalesForce.org has reportedly provided over $53 million in grants to individuals and groups as of March 2014 and has helped over 20,000 higher education establishments (including non-profit customers). Non-profit organizations will receive a discount on software from SalesForce.com. It also promotes the importance of higher education by providing large sums of money to educational institutions.

Conclusion

With a recognizable global presence, SalesForce.com is one of the biggest and most popular cloud-based software development organizations today. Its efforts in developing creative and more effective CRM and other business automation software have made it one of the most in-demand organizations in the software market, with enormous growth potential in other branches.
