At the request of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Chinese President Xi Jinping will be in Riyad, Saudi Arabia, on December 7-10 for a State visit and to participate in the inaugural China-Arab States Summit and the China-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit.

According to a report released by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in early December, the summit will be a historic event where the leaders of both countries will plan for future cooperation, advance the improvement of bilateral relations, and consolidate consensus on global governance, development, security, and other critical issues.

Titled “Sino-Arab Cooperation in the New Era,” the document highlights the two groups’ mutual support and dedication to solving pressing problems, as well as the rapid increase of bilateral trade connections and people-to-people encounters.

Even with a 37% increase from 2020 to 2021, China remained the Arab world’s top commercial partner in 2021, with bilateral commerce totaling around 330,000,000,000 USD.

In a welcoming letter to the fifth China Expo -Arab Governments, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed China’s willingness to foster high-quality cooperation on the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with Arab states.

Xi stated that China and the Arab states have continued to deepen strategic coordination and synergy of actions in recent years, and that their cooperative effort to create the Belt and Road has shown positive results, noting the longstanding friendship between the peoples of China and the Arab states.
