Serbia, located at the intersection of Central and Southern Europe, has formed the first comprehensive strategic alliance with China among Eastern Central European nations. POWERCHINA is expanding its operations into Europe, and the Belgrade Belt Highway project in the country’s capital is a key component of this strategy. At the tender’s opening ceremony for Section 5, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic used a proverb from ancient China: “To grow rich, you have to start by building a road.” This maxim has profound relevance to the modern understanding of Serbia’s progress.

The Belgrade Belt Highway project was advanced thanks to the friendly relationship between China and Serbia and the hospitality of the Serbian government and people toward Chinese businesses. The project hired a large number of Serbian engineers and senior managers to ensure a seamless implementation and to reduce the amount of time needed for the transition period during the preparatory phase.

Highway completion, according to the project manager’s deputy chief engineer Jovica Radic, will decrease traffic congestion, detours, accidents, gas prices, harmful pollutants, and urban noise.
