The bus terminal in Albany, New York, where Trailways of New York and Peter Pan Bus Lines have resided for more than 25 years, is closing. Trailways of New York is the largest and oldest intercity travel provider in New York State and a few Canadian locations. The transfer is scheduled to happen today, December 1st, with the initial movers arriving at their new temporary residence later today.
CEO of Trailways of New York Eugene J. Berardi Jr. stated during a chat on Thursday that the relocation, “was brought on by Greyhound, who kicked us out of the facility this past summer after terminating its long-standing association with us. Greyhound no longer owns the station, but they still own the lease. Because they now see us as competitors, they have kicked out Trailways, a subtenant. There is no question that this will have a bad effect on travellers.” In an unexpected move this past spring, Greyhound ended its decades-long partnership with Trailways, a company based in New York.
The announcement of Trailways’ relocation follows the recent publication of a report that reimagined the dilapidated downtown Albany, New York station as an ultramodern transit hub costing $81 million.
23 Everyone at Trailways is thrilled that plans to restore the downtown bus station may move forward soon, according to Berardi. “According to the current designs, a mixed-use project would include a first-rate transit infrastructure, enhancing the travel experience for all visitors to the capital city.
