A J1772 connector is employed with these cables for use with Level 2 charging applications, which are an increasingly popular application.

There are pins in the J1772 charging connector that are capable of transferring both power and proximity sensing, thus ensuring that EVs can only leave the charging cable when it has been safely disconnected. Combined with a J1772-to-NACS adapter, these cables can also be used for charging EVs with NACS charging ports when combined with a J1772-to-NACS adapter.
