For the first time in three years, travellers are eager to take advantage of the ease of hassle-free international travel for New Year’s Eve. According to Agoda data, searches for countdown getaways are up 29% from the previous year and by an astounding 88% from 2020. Travel is now again in demand, as evidenced by the fact that searches have increased by almost 41% from 2019, the final year before the epidemic.
This year, tourists from all over the world are flocking to urban areas to celebrate New Year’s Eve in the midst of massive celebrations and beautiful fireworks displays. Leading online travel agency Agoda examined regional search statistics for New Year’s Eve travel and shared the top locations in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Tokyo is now the top city in Asia. The appeal of the land of the rising sun has increased significantly since Japan extended its borders to inbound tourism. Bangkok, Thailand, a favourite in Asia for New Year’s Eve, and Taipei, Taiwan, which recently underwent renovations, round up the top three.
