The World Economic Forum has chosen the home appliance manufacturing facility of LG Electronics (LG) in the United States as a top Lighthouse Factory (WEF).
The award-winning washer and dryer production base for LG in the United States is a million-square-foot facility in Clarksville, Tennessee. It is the first home appliance plant in the country to join the WEF’s worldwide network. It is also the second Lighthouse Factory for the firm, following the LG Smart Park in Changwon, South Korea, which was chosen by the WEF the previous year.
The Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies of the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and other are integrated into a “Lighthouse Factory,” according to the World Economic Forum (WEF). The WEF has chosen and added international factories to its network twice annually starting in 2018.
The state-of-the-art autonomous factory operated by LG in Tennessee makes use of cutting-edge digital technology, including AI, big data, IoT, and robotics. The facility, which was finished at the end of 2018, presently employs three production lines for top- and front-load washers and dryers. The company, which has a capacity to produce 1.2 million washers and 600,000 dryers annually, actively adapts local production to shifting North American demand. The LG home appliance factory in Montgomery County, Tennessee, employs more than 900 workers.
