Vejle Hospital becomes first center in the world to use RayStation for an online adaptive treatment with augmented CBCT
RaySearch Laboratories AB (publ) announces that University Hospital of Southern Denmark in Vejle, Denmark has developed a new and groundbreaking workflow for adapting a patient's treatment plan during the first treatment session. The improved workflow is enabled by the adaptive replanning capabilities of RayStation®* and significantly saves time for the patient. The first patient was successfully treated on October 10.In this workflow, a preliminary treatment plan is prepared based on the previously acquired diagnostic CT scan rather than obtaining an additional CT scan in order to plan a treatment, which is the current standard method of preparing a treatment plan.. The patient no longer needs to wait for the additional CT appointment, which marks a significant benefit to the patient in terms of saving time and money. Due to the change in patient positioning between the time of image acquisition and the time of treatment delivery, the treatment plan prepared based on the diagnostic CT scan cannot be used without modifications. The synthetic CT algorithm and fast adaptive replanning capabilities of RayStation allow for the creation of a customized treatment plan during the treatment session, based on the CBCT of the first fraction of the treatment.. With this workflow, the CBCT is augmented with the diagnostic CT, and a new plan is created, which is used for the first and any subsequent fractions of the procedure With this workflow, the CBCT is augmented with the diagnostic CT, and a new plan is created, which is used for the first and any subsequent fractions of the procedureOn October 10, the first patient - a 65-year-old man diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer - underwent successful treatment. He underwent a 30 Gy regimen over 10 fractions, and his treatment was delivered using a VMAT (volumetric modulated arc therapy) arc on an Elekta C-arm linac. In this example, the online adaptation was motivated by differences in positioning between the acquisition and treatment of the images. However, the powerful tools in RayStation could also be used for addressing other anatomical changes resulting from treatment. The medical physicist at Vejle Hospital, Run S. Thing, explains, "Our mission is to push the boundaries of innovation to improve patient care and operational efficiency." By implementing the new workflow, we hope to significantly reduce the amount of time that a patient undergoing short-course palliative radiotherapy will have to spend in the hospital."Online adaptive has been an important focus of RaySearch for many years, and I am impressed by the work done at Vejle," says Jay Löf, founder and CEO of RaySearch. With RayStation, it is very possible to incorporate online adaptive into clinical routine using the very advanced tools that we have available, and Vejle's work illustrates what ground-breaking possibilities our users have in order to further advance the treatment of cancer."In order to obtain more information, please contact: Johan Löf, founder and CEO of RaySearch Laboratories AB (publ) Telephone: +46 (0) 8 510 530 00 [email protected]You can download the following files from the following links:RaySearch Laboratories is the source of this information(JULY - SEPTEMBER 2023) Order intake SEK 240.7 M (219.1) Net sales SEK 252.9 M (210.9) Operating profit SEK 28.6 M (12.0) Profit after tax SEK 28.6 M (12.0)This is to inform you that RaySearch Laboratories AB (publ) has announced that Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in the USA has placed an order for the treatment planning software...Receive PRN's top stories and curated news delivered straight to your inbox every week when you sign up!
