Wang Yi, State Councilor and Foreign Minister of China, summarised the nation’s diplomatic efforts this past Sunday and emphasised the importance of China’s diplomacy as a major force in advancing world peace and development.
In his speech at the symposium on China’s international position and foreign relations, Mr. Wang stated, “We are thoroughly pursuing the principles of big-power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, making fresh contributions to sustaining world peace and fostering common development.”
Mr. Wang noted the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, bilateral meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and foreign leaders from more than 40 countries, and three foreign trips made by Xi Jinping before and after the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in October while praising head-of-state diplomacy as a model for China’s overall diplomatic work.
31 heads of state, governments, and international organisations attended the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, which Mr. Wang lauded for showing the world a “more confident, determined, open, and inclusive” China.
