After Zm drivers affiliated with Teamsters Local 174, bus service for students in the Seattle School District will continue to be supplied completely by Teamsters.

Last Monday, a neutral third party confirmed that the majority of the workers had decided to join the Teamsters, and the decision was finalised by voluntary recognition. Once Zm is done hiring drivers, the school district may potentially add more than 200 more employees to Local 174.
Rick Hicks, Secretary-Treasurer of Local 174, said, “We are delighted to welcome our newest members at Zm into the Teamster family and look forward to a bright future with this group.” “Since Seattle is a union city and school bus driving is a unionised profession, we are happy that Zm chose to support its employees’ decisions rather than fight against them. Together, we intend to show that these drivers made the correct decision by joining the Teamsters Union.”
Up until this academic year, First Student was the only company engaged to provide school bus transportation in Seattle. However, the Seattle School District has decided to divide the contract with Zm, a newcomer from California. The group was promptly organised by Local 174, which met frequently with new hires and gathered signed union authorization cards.
