As cooperation agreements were inked in a number of areas on Wednesday, including the Belt and Road, agriculture and fisheries, infrastructure, finance, customs, e-commerce, and tourism, China and the Philippines vowed to advance comprehensive strategic cooperation.
The accord was struck following discussions between Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. and Chinese President Xi Jinping. He is the first head of state from another country that China will host in the new year.
Additionally, this is President Marcos’ first trip to China since entering office and his first official trip outside of the ASEAN, highlighting the value that China and the Philippines have on their bilateral ties.
